Belem do Para, Brazil: H H Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, the Founder and Chairperson of Education Above All Foundation, visited the Prefeitura de Parauapebas school in the indigenous Xikrin community in the village of Djudjeko in Brazil’s northern Para region.
The visit aimed to examine the education systems in isolated and indigenous communities and learn about challenges they face.
The Educate A Child programme, which is part of the Education Above All Foundation, is exploring partnership opportunities with regional authorities and local partners to facilitate technologically innovative approaches to primary education in the region.
The aim is to increase access and retention for primary-age children in schooling.
After the visit, Sheikha Moza said: “It is fascinating to see the approaches to education being taken in these indigenous communities. The Educate A Child programme launched last year in Doha is striving to support the hardest to reach children gain access to quality education.
“We can learn a great deal from the education initiatives I have seen today, which are culturally-appropriate while at the same time seeking to enable these children to be part of the mainstream school system.
“Technology and innovation can have an important role to play in such efforts.” QNA
